I rejoice knowing that he is in the Lords arms and loving every minute of it. I want everyone to know how thankful and grateful we are to have Brock Latham in our lives. He will forever change us...... I woke up today and thought what can I do to get closer to the Lord?

All this has made me want to do everything I can to see Brock again and the only way we will every see anyone again is if we walk, talk and become more like JESUS.. God has a purpose for all things. Brock was not placed in our care without a purpose. Our family did not do this without purpose. We will spend our days praising the Lord and thanking Him always.

Today we went to church as a family for the first time since March, we looked over and we saw some friends and in that moment we knew one of the many reasons why Brock was placed here for a very short time. We went to him after church and he shared with us something so precious...... He said when he came to Brock's service he felt GOD and he knew he needed to come back. He said when he came today he felt God again... WOW. Thank you Lord!!!!!!

Again, thank you all for the continued support and many prayers.
Please continue to pray for our family.

Still Standing on God's Promises,
                                                   Barbara and Kevin Latham
Psalm 106:1
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his loves endures forever.

To all our faithful friends....

We want everyone to know that today (10/15) Brock Latham went home to be with Jesus...

We praise our King!!!!!! Brock is feeling better. Thank you Lord for being so faithful. He still is a little restless. He also now has a couple of sores on his ear and butt from the meds and edema.

On Sunday Kevin and I were going to send out an e-mail and update everyone on Brock's progress and then he came down with something. So here is the update with all the good stuff......

It will be one year since we came home from the hospital with Brock. As I sit here and reflect all that has happened this past year I feel so blessed. God is faithful God is good all the time......

Brock is growing and now weighs 37.5lbs. Last year when we left the hospital he weighed between 16-18lbs. He is very strong and does put up a fight when you mess with him. It really is amazing to watch him go from doing nothing last year at this time to moving all the time. From being so weak to being so strong. What can we say, God does hear our prayers and he is faithful. Brock also has learned how to squeeze a ball and when he squeezes it hard enough it makes music turn on. Our great friend and nurse Brandy watched Brock last night and she said she thought he was going to fall off the bed he was moving so much. Yeah!!!! She also said she thought he was going to wake up ..... We will thank you in advanced for waking and restoring Brock in Jesus name Amen.
Thank you for all your prayers... We have felt them. Please keep pressing in.

Still Standing on God's Promises,
Barbara and Kevin

---God's timing is not ours but it is the perfect time.
Habakkuk 2:1,3
I will climb up into my watchtower now and wait to see what the Lord will say to me and how he will answer my complaint. But these things I plan won't happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.

Psalm 6:2-19
Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak.
Heal me, Lord, for my body is in agony.
I am sick at heart.
How long, O Lord, until you restore me?
Return, O Lord, and rescue me.
Save me because of your unfailing love.
For in death, who remembers you?
Who can praise you from the grave?
I am worn out from sobbing.
Every night tears drench my bed; my pillow is wet from weeping.
My vision is blurred by grief; my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies.
Go away, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my plea; the LORD will answer my prayer.

Prayer request for Brock and family:09-13-06

Brock has been very sick for a few days now. This past Saturday he went skating with dad.

Thank you Lord for everything you do.....

Tomorrow is a very big day for the Latham family and we would like to invite you to be in prayer throughout your day for Brock. Brock will be turning 4 years old. And this time last year is when the doctors said no more treatment, take Brock home and love him. As I write this I find myself filled with so many emotions just knowing what one year has brought to our lives. Some good, some bad but most of all some wonderful moments. We have learned what the words wait, stand, love and patience truly mean. We have watched our family and friends grow in Christ along with our own growth. We have made many new and awesome friends along the way. We feel so very blessed that God has put each and everyone of you in our lives. As, I close I want everyone that reads this just to sit and reflect on your own year and what it has brought you. Remember God is soooo good and faithful. We look forward to what God has for our family. Just knowing He loves us and will be with us through every situation makes us feel so blessed to be His.

Here is a scripture that was given to me one year ago from a dear friend.
John 11:40 Then Jesus said, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?"

Still Standing on Gods Word,
Kevin and Barbara Latham

03-31-06 Update

We are still at home. Brock continues to do very well. He has been moving around a lot more, getting stronger all the time. He continues to grow and weighs 35.5lbs, wears 4T clothes and just looks wonderful. I looked at him a few days ago and thought something looks different about him. I do not know what it is but I do know it can only be good. Thank you Father.

His head is almost completely healed. And his hair is coming in rather nicely. He still loves to hold my hand and squeeze it. Well, I love it so I am just guessing he loves it just as much.

We do weekly blood work to check on everything. Which all looks great. Praise the Lord!!!

I opened my bible before I started to type this and I opened it to this verse. It meant so much to me I thought I would share it with you. I (Barbara), am sorry for not updating sooner. I am very happy to say that life at the Latham house has been rather normal, as odd as that sounds...

The girls have been keeping us busy with their different activities. Bree has just finished cheering and has started track. Keeley is doing gymnastics and helping with Madison's basketball team. Madison is playing her last basketball game this week and has started gymnastics also. All three girls have been doing good in school.

Mr.Brock is doing wonderful. And I believe I am the hardest critic when it comes to how he looks or what he is doing. He just looks AWESOME. Thank you LORD. He continues to move every part of his body. He has been sitting in a chair once a week with help but seems to really like it. We asked him to kick his left foot on Thursday and he did. It was pretty exciting to see him do it. Thank you Lord for the little things that are so big to us. Most of all I love to lay right next to Brock and hold his hand. Just to have his hand in my hand and to have him squeeze it. WOW! What that does to a mother. Brock's head is almost completely healed and his hair in most spots is growing back. We thank you Lord for all that you have done and all that you will do. Now, glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope. Eph 3:20

Please continue to pray for our family. Remember to thank the Lord for everything and give Him all the glory.

Still Standing on God's Promises,
The Latham Family

Praises to our King, the Latham house is all well!! Thank you for all your prayers. Kevin and Keeley have been let back into the rest of the house, after battling the flu for a week. They are both feeling wonderful.

Brock is doing well and we are very pleased with the way his head is healing. He is really moving a lot this week. He has been tolerating his feeds, he is on hardly any oxygen. We are lowering his vent settings as he tolerates the changes. And he has been squeezing my hand. Another exciting thing is that he is doing it with the left hand. The neat thing about that is that he didn't really use his left side in the hospital or even when we came home. Thank you Jesus! Brock's PT was at our house and I told her that he was squeezing my hand and she wanted to see him do it. She was very excited, and said that it is a purposeful movement. Again thank you Lord.

I just wanted to remind everyone that we need to all remember to give praises to God for big and little things. Sometimes when we are waiting for something big we forget all the little things he has done.

Here is a scripture for you to read Romans 8:25-30.
May God continue to bless you and give you strength. I am so sorry I could not go into details earlier. We do believe that God calls us to depend on HIM first. Believe me we felt the need to hear a familiar voice, a supportive friend, or even just someone to comfort us. But that was not God's plan for us today. He wanted our attention and He wanted to comfort us Himself. You know that when you try to do things or figure things out yourself things just do not flow like they do when you surrender it all to HIM.

GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME.. Even in the storm, God is good!!!

I guess now that I have rattled on I will get to what happened today.......... It started out a wonderful day and ended just as wonderful. Around 11am Brock spit up his breakfast and then his O2 sats went really low, we tried for a few hours to get them back up with no luck. Then finally around 2pm they went into a normal range. Around 2:30, he then spit up again 2 more times. This time we tried everything to get his O2 sats up and we were unable too. His O2 sats were dangerously low but nothing could be done medically. You see we had him on as much oxygen that the tanks could deliver 10L per minute. Which is very high. So we prayed and waited. Around 10:30PM his O2 sats moved into a normal range. Praise the Lord!!

We now know that Brock has the stomach bug. When he threw up he aspirated some of it causing his O2 sats to go down. At this time no one else in the house has the bug.

We are very careful with people coming in and out but now we need to be even more. We enjoy all visitors but ask that if you have been sick or have been around someone that has been sick, please just call or e-mail us. We do love phone calls and love to read e-mails. And as always love to see people just remember Brock doesn't need a bug...

Please continue to pray for our family and seek God for how to pray for us. Thank you for all the support and may God Bless You.

Still Standing On GOD'S Promises,
The Latham Family

CHRISTMAS 2005

01-12-2006 UPDATE
We are still at home. Brock continues to do very well, although he has not woke up yet. Still moving around, growing, does open his eye lids from time to time. Occasionally he gets a little puffy from extra fluid but all in all, he looks great.

A couple of weeks ago while doing some routine blood checks, some of the results looked like he had an infection somewhere. Brock's Dr. started checking things out when probably a week later, a bump pops up on his head. It continued to grow and then one of the bumps friends moves in next door. Anyway the thing kept growing and probably got to the size of a golf ball and stuck out from his head about an inch. Our Dr came by, to take a look and he told us he thought it was a boil caused by a staph infection. He was started on antibiotics and several days later the thing finally ruptured. The Brock's Dr sent us to a wound Dr here in Abilene and he cut off the bad skin and cleaned it up a bit. It was then revealed that the wound had compromised his bone, making a small hole in his skull. We clean and dress it often, trying to keep the area clean. The Dr has given us instructions to let nobody touch his head.

The wound, now six days later looks good. It is pink, has a good blood flow and looks healthy. Brock's Dr came by and looked at it Monday night and he thought it (the hole and the wound)looked smaller. Kevin is one of the Purple Posse; he was a star player on the 1986 team. Brock is in a deadly battle with cancer.

The players say they were impressed with Brock's fight against cancer. They saw his fortitude as an inspiration for their team and they decided that they would keep Brock in their minds and hearts as they played each game. They put his initials on their jerseys and when they ran onto the field in Abilene for the state championship game, they broke through a banner that simply said, "Brock Latham."

After the game in Abilene, Kevin Latham told the Abilene Reporter News: "It means a lot. To know that, in the midst of all that's going on in their lives right now, they'd just stop for a minute and think about Brock's plight ... that's something special."

The folks in Throckmorton think it is special too. The town is full of pride and the angst is gone.'

Note: The football team came to the Burgundy Road concert listed below to show support for the family and Brock. Again.....pretty classy for a bunch of hairy-legged boys. Salute to Coach(Mr.) Hogue, and Coach Davis....on helping to raise young men with character and discipline. We are very thankful for all the blessings that continue to brighten each and everyday. God is good all the time. Brock is doing good! Everyday he moves a little more. He has gained weight, he weighs 30 pounds. Praise the Lord!!! I think he weighed around 20-22 pounds when we came home. He has opened his eyes several times, doesn't focus on anything but we believe that will come soon. The girls are doing great, staying busy with school and as happy as ever.

We are going to take our first big trip out of Abilene. Kevin, Brock and I are going to Dallas to a conference. Brock's Dr., discovered about that time that his white blood cell count was a bit high which looked like he an infection somewhere. Antibiotics were started and about 6 days later it was discovered that his sodium level was out of wack as well. Out of wack sodium level causes sleep and I guess, that an infection can cause all of it.

With all the associated things, the Dr was going to bring the sodium level to within normal range but was going to do it very slowly. He had several levels high and then had several days that he was just above and just below the normal ranges but November 7th his sodium level was moved into the normal range and it has remained since.
Another exciting thing is the amount of movement. He at first moved one of his feet, later, he added the other with an occasional knee flex and body twist. This progressed to the body twist, shoulder raise and then came the head turn. The head turn started slowly and very infrequently and the first witnesses to this were hardly creditable. (this is my way of confessing to being a Thomas). We have enjoyed seeing all of this now for about a week and yesterday the 9th he moved his left hand. By the way the movements must oppose gravity to be considered legit. Did I mention Thomas?

Anyway, the amount that he is moving around has us very excited. Things that he would not move a couple of months ago are now moving. There have been three occasions now that he was just moving away and I thought that he was fixing to open up his eyes and say something. I still feel the Lord impressing upon me that soon will be the time for him to wake. Not soon enough for this pile of flesh but Gods timing is perfect.

Other happenings- His temperature which has been good for sometime now has become very stable. His tolerance of his feedings is very good. His need for supplemental oxygen has been zero for the last several days. Poop-er and tee-ter working good. Blood work yesterday showed that his production of red blood cells is on the rise. They were alittle on the low side, although not low enough to worry about only low enough to make him appear alittle pale or in need of some sun.
This update has been saved in my draft mail so now I will add the latest developments.

November 14th.
We had a short stay in the emergency room Friday, that started with events on Thursday. When his physical therapist came to the house, Brock was on the couch. We moved him to the floor so that Sue, his pt, could move around him and put him in different positions. Later that afternoon, I noticed water in his ventilator tubing and I was going to drain it but I forgot. All was fine until I moved him back to the couch and poured the water into his lungs. This happened while we were in the Hospital and we had to wait it out, giving him the oxygen needed while we waited, it took about 24 hours for him to recover. Well, about 1 am Friday morning, we were giving all the oxygen we had at the house, and it was not quite enough. We took him to the hospital were he could get the amount of oxygen needed to keep his oxygen saturations in an acceptable range. The Dr took an x ray and did all the usual blood work to which he responded that he did not think that his blood work had ever looked so good. More tests were then scheduled for 3 pm Friday afternoon and if he was improving we would go home. Those tests looked good but he was still on a good bit of oxygen and that needed to come down prior to our return home. At about 6 pm, Brock needed almost no extra oxygen and the Dr gave the order for us to go home.
Since returning home all is well, he remains on the iv fluids as we increase the amounts of his feedings and should be off that this evening, (Monday night). Brock will continue on antibiotics until Friday or so just in case something is starting because of all the water going into his lungs. He continues to look great and we expect God to wake him soon and to reveal the healing power that our Father has.

Continue to press in on our behalf during your prayer time, asking the Holy Spirit to guide you.
In Him, Kevin and Barbara.

Burgundy Road for Brock

December 5th, a Christian Rock band, Burgundy Road is planning to perform and all profits go to help the family of Brock Latham. Currently, he is sitting up in a chair without oxygen or an IV by HIMSELF. We are happy. Praise God! The grandma's bought him a 'carebear' balloon. Can you believe it? We then, went out and got him a real mans balloon....a monster fire truck which he loves. Ha! Ha!
08/17/05, Wed., 11:30PM- They have moved Brock from PICU into a room tonight and his breathing continues to improve. Wow! Brock stood up today and we had many friends and family bring encouraging words and food. Many laid hands on him and prayed for his healing. Brock is continuing to desire his pizza and blue kool aid jello.
08/15/05, Mon., 5PM - Brocks lungs and breathing have improved greatly so far since we have been here. This with very little intervention on the medical side of this battle. One timers are welcome to post a prayer or email me. Remember to post your name and email address.

HOW LONG?: Until Brock is completely restored and victory has come. Extreme times require extreme measures. WE HOPE TO KEEP THIS GOING UNTIL GOD RELEASES US. In other words, 30 minute intervals means a person takes 5-5:30AM every morning. Several people have signed-up for one time, one day, 30 minute slots and that's great...keep it going! However, please sign-up, only if you are committed to pray your 30 minute slot everyday.

OPEN TIMES:

Updated Tuesday, 01/10/06, 4PM

How to sign-up:
1)click on, comments, below
2)Choose anonymous identity
3)your name(s)
4)your 30 minute time, AM and PM
5)your email address
6)click on Login and Publish

PRAYING PROBLEMS: If 30 minutes of praying seems hard for you, don't beat yourself up...no biggie... put on a worship CD, get on your knees and close your eyes and go 30 seconds, it doesn't matter. Click: Need help to pray? for a little jumpstarter. Before you know it, you'll have gone way over 30 seconds to 1 minute. Build off of that... but take it slow at first and be happy. God enjoys u. They left the theater on March 11 arguing about the nature of God the Father (reportedly whether He was human or symbolic), and when they arrived home the debate turned violent—to the point that they both called the police.

Both were mistaken about God (He is a Spirit and He is real); both suffered injuries (Mrs. Davidson to her arm and face and Mr. Davidson to his hand, with a stab wound from scissors); and both were placed under arrest for simple battery.

"Really, it was kind of a pitiful thing, to go to a movie like that and fight about it," said Gene McDaniel, chief sheriff's deputy. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.

Need a little help in how to pray?

Your mind wander when you pray? Can't seem to stay focused? Here are some little hints that help me in individual prayer/worship.

Posture:1)kneel on both knees and sway back and forth with your hands. 2)Walk back and forth with your hands raised. 3)Get in shape....run or go walking and pray with your eyes wide open.

Scripture:1)open your Bible and read it outloud as you walk. 2)Get Worship music that are 'scripture' based songs...and pray sing them. 3)Buy the 'praying the Bible' CD series and do the stuff here's a sample 3)Memorize OT and NT prayers in the Bible and then pray it. Grab a Bible and turn to the book of Psalms. Personalize the prayers in Psalms. Learn and pray the 'Lords Prayer'. 4)Buy the Bible on CD (ESV Listeners Bible) and get a CD walkman or ipod and take off.....sometimes pause it after a scripture speaks to you.

Method:1)Begin and end with worshipping God....'God, you are Holy, Awesome, Worthy, Gracious, full of Justice, Everlasting, Lamb of God....'. Study God's attributes to help in this area. 2)Thank him for sparing you and showing you his mercy. 3)Confess your sins.....and receive His forgiveness with a grateful heart.4)After quoting His forgiveness and owning that you having been forgiven, come to God boldly asking Him to make wrong things right....Intercede, in other words....remember to ask the Holy Spirit to give you His gifts. 5) Linger long over a verse in the Bible that seems to stick out to you. Say it over and over, outloud. 6) And last but not least, invite the Holy Spirit to come and help you pray.

Prayer groups also aid individual prayer times so get in as many as you can and see your heart soar.

Start slowly. Don't beat yourself up for falling asleep. Make a goal of 5 minutes and pray/worship longer only as your hunger to stay in prayer increases. Make delight in prayer overrule your duty to pray. Follow this plan and see your TV watching time vanish, in time. Everything will fight against your praying/worship time. Even ministry. Be brave and keep at it and may we find 'joy in the house of prayer'.

Some links to help:
1)Mike Bickles apostolic prayer guide
2)God attributes study for worship
3)More ideas
4)Praying the Bible CDs warning this one could set you on fire!

Smile for Uncle Wes

Three amigos.

Prayer for God to heal my nephew Brock Latham

Father , I come to you now in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
